  • 1 large lemon (rinsed)
  • 1 2-inch piece fresh ginger (rinsed, peeling optional)
  • 1 dash ground turmeric
  • 1 pinch fresh black pepper (optional)
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 cups boiling water

Instructions

  • Bring a kettle of water to a boil (you'll need about 2 cups total (480 ml)).
  • Slice lemon in half and juice each half into a serving mug (each mug gets half of the lemon). Be sure to place the juiced lemon halves in the mugs as well to infuse more flavor (see photo).
  • Add sliced ginger and a dash of ground turmeric. Black pepper and cayenne are optional but bring more balance and heat. Black pepper also increases the bioavailability of turmeric.
  • Top with boiling water and wait a few minutes for the flavors to infuse. Enjoy. Best when fresh. Can be enjoyed up to 24 hours later if stored in the refrigerator and reheated. Not freezer friendly.Notes
  • *Other add-ins could include raw honey or maple syrup, or a bag of your favorite herbal tea, such as chamomile.

    1. Helps in Digestion

Your digestion problems will take a backseat once you start drinking honey and lemon water every morning. This healthy tonic will make your digestive system function properly. Honey and lemon water helps increase the secretion of digestive juices like bile and stomach acid. This, in turn, ensures the easy breakdown of the food you intake and seamless absorption of the nutrients. Drinking warm water with lemon and honey will result in better bowel movement, and reduce the feeling of bloating and flatulence.

    2. Promotes Weight Loss

Just like green tea, honey-lemon water helps one lose weight by increasing the rate of metabolism. It also makes you feel fuller, thereby helping you shed a few pounds. Honey and lemon water will keep you hydrated and help you maintain a healthy weight. Consider drinking a glass of honey and lemon water before a meal. This will fill you up, leading to less calorie intake. You can also replace sugary sodas and beverages with this drink to lower your calorie intake.

    3. Helps Flush Out Toxins

Drinking honey and lemon water can also help you flush out toxins from your body. This will keep your body free from radicals and toxins that lead to breakouts and constipation. Modern lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, pollution, harmful chemicals affect our health adversely. These external factors lead to the accumulation of toxins in the body. Drinking honey and lemon water every day will help you get rid of the toxins from your body. Honey and lemon water works as an effective liver tonic by neutralising the effects of these free radicals.

    4. Increases Immunity

It will protect you from common infections and diseases resulting from seasonal changes. Honey is a popular remedy for cough and flu. Honey is also rich in antioxidants and has antimicrobial qualities. It helps one recover from illness faster and keeps the germs at bay.

    5. Keeps Skin Healthy

Drinking honey and lemon water daily can also reduce the occurrence of pimples and acne in the long run. The oil-controlling property of lemon and the antioxidants in honey work together to keep your skin healthy and pimples at bay.

High cholesterol doesn’t come with any symptoms, but that doesn’t mean it’s nothing to worry about. As you probably know, heart disease is the No. 1 killer in the U.S. for both men and women. And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes having elevated levels of cholesterol puts you at a significantly higher risk for heart disease.
